Sawyer Fredericks Debuts at Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino
Guests staying at Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino enjoyed a delightful treat last week as they occupied front-row seats at a sunset concert given by Sawyer Fredericks and his band at the Mira Solo lobby bar.
The 20-year-old singer-songwriter from New York State is a folk/blues artist who conquered hearts on NBC’s The Voice and ended up winning season 8, securing the admiration of broad audiences with his genuine delivery and unique arrangements of classic songs.
Fredericks has since established himself as an authentic Americana artist, and his recent trip to Aruba with his band was his first overseas engagement. He has been touring the US and Canada in 2019, showcasing his artistry at festivals and private engagements.
Not surprisingly, Fredericks found plenty of fans in Aruba, and they flocked to Mira Solo to hear his original, deep, beyond-his-years lyrics and melodies. Fredericks was happy to deliver two powerful live performances here, thrilling his old fans and making some new ones.
As a special feature, the resort built a glass stage for Fredericks and his band above the iconic waterfall, complementing the singer’s great lyrics and music with a dramatic setting and backdrop.
Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino offers travelers a world of authentic experiences, combined with best-in-class products, services, and amenities. From big corporate events to intimate personal moments, Hilton is where the world toasts special occasions and gets away from it all.
The New Herring is Fat and Tasty!
The Dutch tradition of “Haring Happen” occurs in Aruba at Café the Plaza when the first herrings of the season are flown in. This upcoming Friday, June 14, local lovers of rare herring will flock to the popular cafe in the Renaissance Marketplace to sample the delicacy. Predictions about this year’s catch are very favorable: the 2019 herring is fat and tasty—it just slides down your throat!
Things will get underway at Café the Plaza with a new herring reception starting at 5 pm. Outside on the terrace, there will be a fish cart selling the herrings. A Balashi beer stand will take care of the unique combination, herring and beer, while the Dutch and Aruban national flags will wink at the tight links between these two countries. There will also be live music from 3 pm till 7 pm, followed by live music on the main stage outside.
This year’s event is dedicated to the charity foundation Ban Uni Man Pa Cria Nos Muchanan, a foundation in Aruba that provides unfortunate children in Aruba with meals for school if their family can’t afford it. Every child should have the opportunity to receive education with a full stomach. During the reception, Café the Plaza will present a donation to the board of the foundation.
We hope you will be able to make it to Café the Plaza in the Renaissance Marketplace on the 14th at 3 pm for a healthy, tasty bite of the new herring of 2019!

There were 245 half-marathon runners, the fastest, Jonathan Busby, burning through the distance in 1:25:16. Of the 487 10K walkers, James Rick came in first, skimming the distance in 34:53. Finally, the “walk in the park” 5K distance, with 1,095 participants, was won by Jethro St. Fleur in 18:22.
Female runner Lana Govert finished her 42.195 kilometers in 3:03:00, finishing third overall. The winner of the 10K among females was Yuli Tineo, a 13-year-old who conquered the distance in just 0:41. Running is her passion, and she has been practicing since the age of four!
The after-party on the beachfront of the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino was fueled by Chill & Balashi and a great band, NFUZION, followed by a picturesque award ceremony against a gorgeous KLM-blue backdrop.
Thank you, KLM Aruba Marathon & the Aruba Tourism Authority, for a great production.
The run is listed on the World’s Marathon Calendar, according to Kees van Muiswinkel, Chairman & Founder of Run in the Sun Foundation/KLM Aruba Marathon, and attracted a decent number of international guests, as well as tourists who just joined on the spur of the moment.
The Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino award ceremony granted two round tickets to Amsterdam to a lucky winner.
Save the date for next year’s event!
