Puppies, Pureocean, and Paradise! A Dream Destination Wedding
Long Island couple ToniAnn and Jason Joseph first came to Aruba on a vacation after hearing great reviews about the island. Aruba would become much more than a vacation destination for ToniAnn and Joseph. During their stay, the couple came across a wedding on the beach and agreed that this would be the ideal spot for their destination wedding. “Aside from witnessing a beautiful wedding with the most amazing backdrop, we fell in love with the island and everything about it, so we wanted to share it with our families and friends–most of whom had never been to Aruba, either,” the couple explained.
When the time came to start the planning process for their overseas wedding, ToniAnn and Jason tapped Aruba Weddings for You to handle all the details. The couple chose Pureocean, located on Palm Beach at the Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort, as the site of both the nuptials and the reception, sharing, “The staff at Pureocean was amazing–so attentive and accommodating. Our guests were raving about the food for days!”
With a naturally beautiful backdrop, ToniAnn and Jason opted for the less-is-more approach. “We wanted everyone to enjoy the natural scenery and a night under the stars dancing by the ocean,” they explained, and went with a simple, clean color palette of white with pops of green and pink in their floral décor. The couple’s family wore all white, and guests dressed in neutral colors.
The bride wore a mermaid-style dress with a “beach vibe,” according to ToniAnn, who also decided to alter the gorgeous train so that she could detach it for the reception. “Initially I didn’t think I would have a train due to the sand, but when my dress came in with the long, beautiful train, I couldn’t just cut it off. It was too heavy to bustle, so I found a tailor who could make it detachable, which I highly recommend for beach weddings.”
ToniAnn added, “Since we were going for the natural, beach vibe, my husband wore a beige linen suit, which was perfect for the hot weather. He still looked dressed up but was very comfortable.”
And then there were puppies!
The couple shared some puppy love with their guests during the cocktail hour, bringing in some adoptable furry ones from local rescue foundation Sgt. Pepper’s Friends. “We have a dog at home that we adopted, and we love everything about Sgt. Pepper’s and all they do for the animals in Aruba. Although none were adopted like we had hoped for, we were glad to bring awareness to the organization, and hopefully through word of mouth, our guests have spread the word.”
Notes from the couple
We introduced most of our family and friends to the island and are happy to say everyone loved it just as much as we do, and some have even made plans to return. As a thank you to our guests, we took them on a sunset cruise the day after the wedding, which everyone enjoyed. It was nice seeing people who started off at the beginning of the trip as strangers become friends.
